Blacksburg, Va. - The Boston College softball team fell to Virginia Tech, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Tech Softball Park.

Freshmen Tory Speer drove in both runs for the Eagles (7-18, 3-3 ACC), going 1-for-3 on the day.

Sophomore Nicole D'Argento recorded the only other hit for BC, scored a run and struck out one batter in a two-thirds inning relief appearance.

Allison Gage (2-8) shouldered the loss for Boston College, throwing 5.1 innings, striking out three, walking seven and allowing two earned runs.

J. Harrell (12-2) earned the win for the Hokies (24-8, 4-2 ACC), striking out and walking one batter in 2.2 innings of work.

Virginia Tech took a two run lead in the first. R. McGarva drew a lead-off walk, advanced to second on an Eagles' fielding error, but was picked off trying to steal third by Wilkins. Two more walks loaded the bases for the Hokies, who drew another walk on a 3-2 count to score their first run. A single from K. Cruz two batters later plated Tech's second run of the inning.

BC evened the game in the third, 2-2. Senior Carolyn Jones drew a one out walk and advanced to second on D'Argento's single through the left side. Junior Ali Lynette-Krech drew a walk to load the bases for Speer, who tabbed K. Roark for two runs with a double down the left field line.

The Hokies took the lead in the fifth, 3-2. B. Rose drew a lead-off walk and was pinch run for by S. Ashby, who stole second on an unsuccessful hit-and-run. Gage then fanned her second straight batter, but M. Hvozdovic singled through the left side to score Ashby.

Virginia Tech added another run, 4-2, in the sixth. Banks singled through the left side, stole second and advanced to third on a pop up to center. A bunt from K. Froehlich scored Banks on the next play.

BC threatened in the seventh, but was unable to capitalize.

The Eagles will meet cross town rival BU on Thursday, March 31, before resuming conference play with three games against NC State on Saturday, April 2.
