PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - The Boston College women's rowing team raced in the 13th annual Jesuit Invitational on Saturday, March 19. This is traditionally the first race of the Spring Season for the Eagles and they were eager to compete on the Cooper River race course for the first of 3 races this Spring. The Eagles raced in four different events against St. Joseph's University, Georgetown, and Loyola University of Maryland: 1st varsity 8, 2nd varsity 8, 3rd varsity 8 and varsity 4. The varsity eight race proved to be exciting as various teams exchanged the lead on the 2,000 meter course. The Varsity 8 and the 3rd Varsity 8 achieved the highest finishes for BC in the event, both placing second. Head Coach Steve Fiske was happy with the way the boats performed in their first competition of the Spring, "All four boats raced hard and they each came away with some feedback which will help them improve in our upcoming races."
The BC Varsity 8 boat (coxswain: Brigid Morrissey, stroke: Erin Roche, 7: Erin Flaherty, 6: Alycia Da'Loia-Moore, 5: Emily Charnowski, 4: Melissa Chavez, 3: Laura Petty, 2: Meg Carmody, Bow: Kelly Williams) finished second with a time of 7:12.
The BC 2nd Varsity 8 boat (coxswain: Jane Mieczkowski, stroke: Lauren Leckenby, 7: Maddie Whitehead, 6: Chenny Zhang, 5: Stephanie Seitz, 4: Erica Jennings, 3: Rachel Pettis, 2: Meghan Smith, Bow: Ellen Keenan) finished fourth with a time of 7:31.
The BC 3rd Varsity 8 boat (coxswain: Lauren Beebe, stroke: Emily Lewis, 7: Sarah Loiselle, 6: Abby Oliveira, 5: Alex Smith, 4: Katelyn Olsson, 3: Alexis Carriere, 2: Rhianna James, Bow: Karen Shu) finished second with a time of 7:29.
The BC Varsity 4 boat (coxswain: Jasmine Howard, stroke: Victoria Goetz, 3: Stephanie Ragland, 2: Victoria Von Rinteln, Bow: Regina Hayburn) finished third with a time of 8:30.
