Reno, Nev. - Junior Brittany Wilkins went 2-for-4 and blasted her ACC-leading eighth home run of the season to tally three RBIs as the Boston College softball team fell to Nevada, 9-8, in its second game of the Nevada Classic on Friday, March 11.
Freshman Alana Dimaso scored two runs and batted a game-high 3-for-4 at the plate.
Freshman Amanda Horowitz (1-4) shouldered the loss for the Eagles (4-13), pitching 3.1 innings, with two Ks, a walk and three earned runs.
M. Darby (6-9) picked up the win for the Wolf Pack (6-16), throwing a complete game, tallying nine strikeouts, two walks and allowing eight runs.
Both sides tallied a run in the first. In the top half of the inning, K. Hopkins singled to lead off and scored on a triple to left center from B. Murdock.
The Eagles drew even on sophomore Nicole D'Argento's third long ball of the season.
Nevada took a 3-2 lead in the second inning. After the Wolf Pack loaded the bases with two walks and a single, D. Patrick singled up the middle to bring in two runs.
Junior Ali Lynette-Krech drew a lead-off walk for BC, moved up to second and took third on a sac bunt, before scoring on a sac fly from classmate Alison Kooistra.
The Wolf Pack added three runs in the fourth. A walk and a single to open the frame allowed K. Hopkins to bring in one run on a double down the left field line and prompt a pitching change for the Eagles. A sac fly and a ground out to first enabled both runners to come in to stretch the Nevada lead, 6-2.
In the fifth, a three-run bomb from Wilkins lifted BC to within one, 6-5. Sophomore Maria Pandolfo reached on an error from the second baseman and Dimaso singled down the right field line to put runners on base for the catcher from Suffolk, Va.
Lynette-Krech's second homer of the day evened the score in the sixth, 6-6.
Nevada put up three runs in the top of the seventh. C. Barilli pinch ran for E. Jones, who led off with a single, and rounded the bases on Murdock's double to right. One out and a walk later, C. Veneble doubled to right, plating Murdock and putting runners in scoring position. After a final pitching change from BC, J. King drove in the final run with a single to center.
Boston College answered with two runs bottom half of the inning. Pandolfo was hit by a pitch to lead-off and moved up to third on Dimaso's double down the left field line. Freshman Ronnie Mae Ayers delivered a two-out single to the same spot, plating both runners, but BC's game ended on a ground out from the next batter.
The Eagles will continue the Nevada Classic with a meeting against New Mexico at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 12.
