Softball Readies for Coastal Carolina Invitational

The Boston College softball team is headed to Conway, S.C. to compete in the Coastal Carolina Invitational from Feb. 25-27. The Eagles (1-4) will open the three day tournament with a matchup against ACC rival Virginia Tech on Friday at noon, before meeting Coastal Carolina and Rhode Island twice in the remaining games.
At the plate, Boston College is led by juniors Alison Kooistra and Brittany Wilkins, as well as sophomore Maria Pandolfo. All three are batting .357 or higher, have recorded five hits and scored at least one run through the first five games.
Wilkins and Pandolfo rank third and fourth in the ACC with slugging percentages of .786 and .769, respectively. Wilkins boasts a team-high four RBIs and two home runs, while Pandolfo and Kooistra have each driven in three runs.
Sophomore Nicole D'Argento (1-1) leads BC from the circle, with 10.1 innings pitched, 11 strikeouts and a .233 batted against average.
Virginia Tech (6-2) relies heavily on the bats of Dani Anderson and Kristen Froelich. Through eight games, Anderson is hitting .462, with three doubles and six RBIs, while Froelich is slugging .846 on three doubles, a triple and a pair of dingers for a total of 12 RBIs.
Kenzie Roark (4-1) has handled 30.1 innings in six appearances, allowing 26 hits and 12 runs, but striking out 35 batters for the Hokies.
Jessie Winens leads Coastal Carolina (5-4) in offensive production. Winens has plated nine runners on six hits and accumulated 13 total bases in 21 at-bats.
The Chanticleers have started Ashley Bagwell (4-1) in four of their wins this season. Bagwell carries a 1.09 ERA through 32 innings of work, having allowed six runs on 27 hits and sat down 26 batters.
Rhode Island (0-5) is looking for its first win of the 2011 season. The Rams have scored nine runs this year, four coming off the bat of Nicole Massoni and her two home runs.
