New Orleans, La. -
Junior Jillian King and senior Hope Krause of the Boston College women's cross country team earned 2010 Division I All-Academic Cross Country status as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday, Feb. 15. This is the second such honor for King, who was selected in 2009, and the first for Krause, who joined the program this past fall.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, student-athletes must compile a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2010.
At regional meet, King, a pre-med student, and Krause, an elementary education major, were timed in personal record fashion to led BC to a fourth place team standing and its 16th NCAA Championship appearance in program history. Each earned their first NCAA regional distinction with 12th and 16th place finishes, respectively.
Ninety-nine student-athletes from 62 universities were named to the All-Academic team. Villanova's Sheila Reid, the reigning national champion, was named the USTFCCCA Scholar-Athlete of the year. The Atlantic Coast Conference had 12 mentions, behind 16 from the Big East and 15 out of the Big-12. The Northeast Region placed 17 student-athletes on the list.
