Women's Tennis Defeats Virginia Tech, 4-3

Four wins in singles play delivered a win, 4-3, for the Boston College women's tennis team over Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass. For the first time in school history, the Eagles (3-2, 2-0 ACC) begin ACC action with victories in the first two games.
Senior Katharine Attwell and junior Katarina Gajic won on doubles No. 3, 8-5, but Virginia Tech (2-3, 0-1) took the point heading into the singles match ups.
Freshman Veronica Corning got BC rolling with a win on court four, defeating Holly Johnson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Gajic was the next to emerge victorious. The Toronto, Ontario native downed Tea Ivanovic, 6-1, 6-3.
An Eagles' loss on singles No. 2 evened the match at two, but sophomore Alex Kelleher took out Yasmin Hamza, 7-6(3), 6-2, at the No. 1 slot to put BC back on top.
The match was clinched with sophomore Olga Khmlev's win over Shannon Betts, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, on singles court No. 5.
The Eagles will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 24, when they host Rhode Island at 5 p.m. in the Flynn Recreation Complex.
