Three Eagles blanked their opponents in singles play as the Boston College women's tennis team defeated the University of Rhode Island, 7-0, on Thursday evening at the William J. Flynn Recreation Complex in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Eagles (4-3, 2-0 ACC) won all three doubles matches to take the one point lead early. Senior Jacqueline Mabatah and sophomore Elizabeth Workman seized the victory, 8-3, in their first appearance at No. 3 doubles this season. Workman came out on top at No. 6 singles as well, besting Michelle Dussoi straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Junior Erina Kikuchi also capitalized in her debut for Boston College. The New York, N.Y. native paired with freshman Veronica Corning for a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, before defeating Christen Cadigan, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
The three double bagels came from sophomore Alex Kelleher, freshman Veronica Corning and second-year Olga Khmylev on the first, third and fourth courts respectively.
BC will return to competition against the Campbell/ITA 63rd-ranked Purdue Boilermakers (6-1) on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Weymouth Club, in Weymouth, Mass.
