CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Lonnie Jackson scored 11 points in his first collegiate start but Boston College lost to visiting Boston University, 75-61, Saturday afternoon in front of 4,876 fans at Conte Forum.
Jackson went 4-for-9 from the field and 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. Freshmen Ryan Anderson and Dennis Clifford both had nine points.
Boston University opened the game with an 11-4 run in the first 2:46 thanks to a pair of D.J. Irving 3-pointers, but BC rattled off seven unanswered points in the next four minutes to tie the game. Anderson capped the streak with a 3-pointer.
BC used those points and a hot start from the field to go on a 21-5 run over a nine-minute span to build a 25-16 lead with 7:29 left in the half. Anderson scored all nine of his points in that stretch. A pair of BU 3-pointers ended the run and started one for the Terriers who scored 10-straight points to take a 26-25 lead with 4:35 left. The teams went into the locker rooms tied at halftime, 31-31.
The two teams - which were tied nine times and exchanged the lead 13 times - played within one possession of each other for the first nine minutes of the second half before BU went on a decisive 14-3 run over three minutes to take a 58-48 lead with 7:27 to go. Darryl Partin scored the last seven points for the Terriers to provide them with the largest lead of the game to that point.
BC cut the deficit to six points, 65-59, but could not get any closer. Partin hit another 3-pointer to make it a nine-point game before the Terriers pulled away.
Partin led all scorers with 27 points and Irving added 17, seven assists and six rebounds for BU (4-4). Dom Morris scored 11 points and grabbed 11 boards, and Matt Griffin recorded 11 points.
Boston College (2-6) travels to Providence College next Thursday for a 7 p.m. game at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
