
Men's Basketball Defeats Sacred Heart, 83-73

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Matt Humphrey scored a career-high 18 points to lead Boston College past Sacred Heart, 83-73, Wednesday night in front of 2,263 fans at Conte Forum.
Humphrey went 5-for-10 from the field and 5-for-7 from the foul line. Freshman Dennis Clifford also scored a career high with 16 points and had six rebounds and three blocks. He was 6-for-7 from the floor. Freshman Ryan Anderson had 13 points and seven boards, and classmate Lonnie Jackson scored 12 points, all in the second half.
BC took a 14-6 lead with a 10-2 run early in the game. Clifford paced the Eagles with seven points during that stretch. The Eagles maintained a multiple possession lead for most of the first half. Sacred Heart, led by Shane Gibson's 17 first-half points, got as close as three with the score at 16-13. BC was up 40-31 with 1:25 to go, but the Pioneers cut the lead to six going into the half.
The Eagles took their largest lead of the game at the 11:36 mark of the second half, 61-48, but Sacred Heart stormed back. The Pioneers went on their first extended scoring run, rattling off 12 unanswered points to cut their deficit to one. Evan Kelley scored four points in that run.
BC weathered the storm and responded with a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to push the lead back to eight, 70-62, with 5:38 left in the game. The BC lead reached 10 when Jackson sank a 3-pointer with 1:55 to play, then Anderson laid in a bucket for a 79-67 lead 23 seconds later to seal the win.
Gibson finished the game with 25 points for Sacred Heart (6-8) and Kelley had 12.
The Eagles (5-7) take a break for the holidays before returning to action on Thursday, December 29 when they host No. 25 Harvard at 7 p.m. in Conte Forum.
