Top-Ranked Boston College Defeats Maine, 5-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Five players scored one goal apiece and Boston College scored twice while skating on the power play and once shorthanded in a 5-1 Hockey East victory over Maine before 6,304 fans at Kelley Rink.
BC scored twice in the first period and led by the final score after two periods.
The line of junior Chris Kreider, sophomore Bill Arnold and sophomore Kevin Hayes accounted for the first three goals of the game to put the top-ranked Eagles in control.
Kreider opened things up at 11:33 of the first period on a shorthanded breakaway. Hayes followed with a power-play tally at 13:26 for the only two goals of the first period.
Arnold's goal - scored just 28 seconds into the middle stanza - was the first in a three-goal flurry to start the period. Maine's lone goal was scored by Jon Swavely at 1:28. BC junior Steven Whitney finished the scoring burst with an even-strength tally at 2:16.
Senior Barry Almeida capped the scoring with a power-play goal at 10:14 of the second period. Whitney, who now has two points in three straight games, assisted on the score.
Junior netminder Parker Milner recorded 20 saves in the victory. He improves to 8-1-0 this season and 21-5-1 in his career.
Maine goaltender Dan Sullivan took the loss, recording eight saves in 22:16. Martin Ouelette made 14 saves in the final 37:44.
The Eagles finished 2-4 with the man advantage and killed off all four Maine power plays.
BC returns to action at Massachusetts, which suffered a 7-3 loss at New Hampshire on Friday, tomorrow night. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Hayes extended his scoring streak to seven games during which he has registered all 10 of his points - three goals and seven assists ... with one goal and two assists, Kreider has recorded back-to-back three point performances. He and Arnold are currently tied for the team lead with 14 points on seven goals and seven assists apiece ... Arnold registered multiple points for the sixth time in nine games this season ... Almeida has scored once in three of the team's last four games ... Freshman forward Danny Linell suffered a shoulder injury early in the first period and did not return. Preliminary indications are that he is likely to miss 2-3 weeks.
