DURHAM, N.C. - Senior Corey Raji scored a team-high 18 points and classmate Joe Trapani totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Boston College in an 84-68 loss to third-ranked Duke before 9,314 fans in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Senior Biko Paris posted 11 points and seven rebounds, while junior Dallas Elmore equaled his career high with 10 points in the first start of his collegiate career.
The Eagles and Blue Devils traded runs through much of the first half. Duke jumped out to an 11-5 advantage five minutes into the contest, before Paris and Trapani hit consecutive three-pointers to even the score.
With the score tied at 15-15, the home team scored seven straight points, before BC answered with a 12-6 rally to narrow the margin to one point at 28-27 with 3:32 left in the half. Raji sparked this run with seven straight points - a lay-up, an old-fashioned three-point play and a dunk.
Duke closed the half with a 13-5 run to claim a 41-32 advantage at the break. Raji led BC with 12 first-half points. Paris tallied six, while Trapani contributed five points and six rebounds.
The Eagles scored four of the first six points in the opening minutes of the second session - four from Trapani and two from senior Cortney Dunn - to climb within five points at 43-38.
The Blue Devils then went on a 17-5 run over the next five-plus minutes to gain control. Duke scored six straight points and, after a Raji trey, scored 11 of the next 13 points.
After Duke extended the margin to 22 points - 69-57 - midway through the half, Boston College rallied one more time to close within 13 points - 76-63 - with 4:35 to play. Junior Reggie Jackson and Trapani each tallied five points in this 16-7 run. Senior Josh Southern scored four points.
BC never got any closer in the final minutes of the contest.
Game Notes: Head coach Steve Donahue used a starting line-up of Southern, Trapani, Raji, Elmore and Paris ... In his first collegiate start, Elmore scored the Eagles' first five points ... Jackson entered the game at the first media timeout (with 14:41 left in the opening half). He finished with seven points and a team-high six assists in 32 minutes ... Trapani recorded his second consecutive double-double (and the 10th of his BC career) ... BC was outrebounded by a narrow 35-33 margin. The Eagles grabbed 11 offensive rebounds and scored 10 second-chance points.
