Herzlich Wins Fourth Annual Rudy Award

Senior LB Mark Herzlich has been named the winner of the 2010 College Football Rudy Award, announced Tuesday by the Rudy Foundation.
The award honors student-athletes who demonstrate exemplary character, courage, contribution and commitment as members of their collegiate football teams. The two other finalists were Nebraska's Alex Henery and NC State's Michael Lemon.
After missing the 2009 season to fight off Ewing's sarcoma, Herzlich returned to the football field in 2010. He had limited playing time in the first two contests in order to get acclimated to the speed of the game, but returned to full-time action in the third game against Virginia Tech. Herzlich completed his Boston College career on Sunday night in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl with five tackles and a forced fumble.
Herzlich was third on the team in total tackles (65) and solo stops (50), led the Eagles in forced fumbles (2) and was second in interceptions (4) and pass break ups (4).
Herzlich was named the winner during the Priority Payment Systems College Football Rudy Awards Breakfast, held in conjunction with the American Football Coaches Association Convention at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.
