Chestnut Hill, MA -
The sophomore tandem of Victoria DiMartino and Kristen Mewis combined for four goals and two assists to lead No. 5 Boston College past Brown University, 4-1, in a non- conference match on Wednesday night. The Eagles improved to 4-0-1, while Brown is now 1-2-0.
The duo - DiMartino and Mewis - led the Eagles offensively. DiMartino scored three goals, a first in her career, while Mewis had one goal and two assists.
All three of DiMartino's goals were nearly identical. The first came at 1:32 in the match when senior Hannah Cerrone chipped the ball over the Brown defense sending DiMartino in alone. The second goal came when Stephanie Wirth and Mewis combined to set up DiMartino with a chip over the defense in the 32nd minute of play.
The prettiest pass all night came when Mewis sent a through ball between two Brown defenders from the 40 yard line into the box, giving DiMartino another one-on-one with the goalkeeper and BC was up 3-0 just 10 minutes into the second half.
Mewis scored the final goal when senior Amy Caldwell sent the ball from the left of the Brown goalkeeper MC Barrett. Mewis calmly brought the ball down, switched it to her left foot and one-timed a rocket into the far post for a 4-0 BC lead in the 57th minute.
The Eagles had 17 shots and held Brown to seven shots, only four on goal. DiMartino led the offense with six shots, while Mewis and Brooke Knowlton each had three shots. Jill Mastroianni played 75 minutes and had one save, while freshman Jill Mickelson saw her first action in the final 15 minutes of the match.
Brown scored its lone goal in the 89th minute on a scramble in front of the goal. Gina Walker scored off a rebound after Mickelson made the initial save in the box on a shot by Carly Ruiz.
