Senior forward Brooke Knowlton scored her first goal of the season early in the second half to lead No. 5 Boston College past Fairfield, 2-0, in a non-conference match on Friday night at Lessing Field. The Eagles are now 5-0-1, while Fairfield is 3-2-0.
Knowlton broke a scoreless tie in the 52nd minute of play. Knowlton one-timed a rebound off a shot from junior Julia Bouchelle's shot. It was Knowlton's first goal of the season.
BC went up 2-0 in the 78th minute when the Victoria DiMartino beat a Stags defender to a ball sent in by Kristen Mewis. DiMartino corralled the ball and placed it by a charging Fairfield goalkeeper, Kelly Boudreau (14 saves). It was DiMartino's seventh goal of the season.
The Eagles outshot Fairfield, 29-3 and held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. The Eagles led 18-2 in shots at the half. Junior goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni picked up the shutout, her fourth this season, while making three saves.
Game Notes:
Victoria DiMartino finished the week with four goals ... Kristen Mewis extended her point-scoring streak to four consecutive games. Mewis, who set up the second goal tonight, finished her week with one goal and three assists ... The Eagles and Stags played in front of a new Fairfield record of 931 fans.
