The Boston College football team welcomes Kent State to Chestnut Hill for the second time in as many years. This season's meeting on Saturday is slated for 3:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
Sophomore QB Dave Shinskie and a new crop of wide receivers got their feet wet last weekend in a 38-20 win against Weber State. Shinskie threw for 185 yards while going 10-for-20. He threw a pair of touchdowns but also tossed two interceptions.
Redshirt freshman WR Johnathan Coleman led all receivers with 98 yards on three catches. Sophomore TE Chris Pantale caught a pair of passes for 19 yards and a score while junior RB Montel Harris had three receptions for 31 yards. Senior WR Ifeanyi Momah's only catch was a 17-yard touchdown strike.
"I thought our timing was good," Shinskie said. "I was off on a couple of throws. I floated the ball instead of zinging it in there. That's just something we need to work on. It was our first game and nothing compares to the quickness of the game. I think that was a good test for us. It wasn't good enough for our offense and we're going to strive to be better week by week."
Shinskie came off the bench last year against Kent State and went 9-for-16 for 73 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He was sacked once but was bothered by the Flashes' scheme all day.
"Last year I got hit a lot in the Kent State game and they're probably going to do the same thing this year," Shinskie said. "They will blitz, make me throw hot and try to make me uncomfortable. We have a veteran line to take care of those blitzes and we work on our protections every day. If I feel comfortable in practice, I will feel comfortable in the game."
Kent State enters the game with a 1-0 record after beating Murray State at home, 41-10. QB Spencer Keith was 24-for-35 for 275 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Sam Kirkland led all receivers with nine catches and 126 yards. The Flashes' defense dominated the Racers, forcing them into -65 rushing yards in the game.
