The Boston College football team hosts Notre Dame Saturday at 8 p.m. on ABC. The only two Catholic programs in the country that sponsor FBS football will meet for the 20th time at Alumni Stadium this weekend.
The Eagles (2-1) have won six of the last seven meetings, but the Irish (1-3) won last year in South Bend, 20-16. That victory gave Notre Dame a 10-9 edge in the all-time series.
The Irish passing game has been one of the tops in the country through the first four weeks of the season. It ranks seventh overall, averaging 315 yards a game. QB Dayne Crist has completed 60 percent of his passes and thrown eight touchdowns with three interceptions. RB Armando Allen also racks up 75 yards per game on the ground.
"My good friend Kyle Rudolph is always the guy I watch first," senior DE Alex Albright said. "He's a great player and having a great year. He is someone we're going to have to contain. Luke Kuechly did a good job on him last year. Armando Allen is outrageous with the cuts he can make. He reminds me of a C.J. Spiller type of player just watching some of the plays he makes. They are very deep all around and it's tough to find a weakness in them."
The Boston College offense will be under a new direction on Saturday night with head coach Frank Spaziani opening up a competition between sophomore Mike Marscovetra and true freshman Chase Rettig.
Marscovetra is 21-for-35 in his career with 227 yards, three touchdowns and two INTs. Rettig, who enrolled in January and participated in spring practices, played in the Under Armour All-American Game at Tropicana Field on January 2.
