Football Picked Third In 2010 ACC Atlantic Preseason Poll

Boston College football has been projected to finish third in the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division, according to a media ballot of 98 members assembled at the annual Football Kickoff at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
Florida State was chosen as the favorite to win the ACC's Atlantic Division with 78 first-place votes and 565 points. Clemson received 16 first-place votes and 479 points, edging Boston College which finished with four first-place votes and 389 points.
Meanwhile, Virginia Tech was the media's choice to win the ACC's Coastal Division and defeat Florida State for the 2010 ACC Championship. The Hokies were selected to win the division with 532 points and 62 first-place votes, outdistancing Miami (444 points, 20 first-place votes) and Georgia Tech (408).
FSU quarterback Christian Ponder was the media's preseason selection as the ACC's Player of the Year. He finished ahead of Virginia Tech tailback Ryan Williams and quarterback Tyrod Taylor, NC State quarterback Russell Wilson and North Carolina defensive end Robert Quinn. In all, 12 ACC players, including Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich and tailback Montel Harris, received votes for ACC Preseason Player of the Year.
Boston College posted a 5-3 record in ACC play last fall. The Eagles finished second in the regular-season standings.
BC returns 44 letterwinners - 26 on defense, 16 on offense and three on special teams - from last fall's team that finished with an 8-5 overall record. Head coach Frank Spaziani, now in his second season, and the Eagles begin the 2010 season on Sept. 4 against Weber State in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
