CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College softball team lost its series finale to Virginia by the score of 4-2 in nine innings on Sunday afternoon at Shea Field.
The loss drops Boston College to 14-28 (0-15 ACC) on the year, while the win improves Virginia to 32-18 (12-5 ACC).
BC is now 1-3 in extra inning games this season.
Virginia opened the scoring in the top of the first inning hitting a solo home run off of BC starter Nicole D'Argento (4-11) to take a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles tied the score in the bottom of the second inning as Renee Ramos continues to swing a blazing hot bat for BC hitting a solo home run to make the score 1-1. The home run was Ramos' third in her last two games and 29th of her career.
Boston College kept the momentum going by taking the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by senior Dani Weir to make the score 2-1 after four innings.
That is the way the score would stay until the top of the sixth inning when Virginia tied the game back up using a walk and two hits in the inning to score their run.
Both teams had chances to break the tie but couldn't do so until the top of the ninth inning when the Cavaliers put the game out of reach scoring two runs off of sacrifice flys to win 4-2.
D'Argento went nine innings allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out five.
Boston College will have a couple days off before traveling to Hanover, N.H. to take on Dartmouth in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 28.
