Softball Drops A Pair To No. 7 Georgia Tech

The Boston College softball team lost the first two games of a three-game series against No. 7 Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 9-0 and 11-3 at Mewborn Field in Atlanta, Ga.
The losses drop Boston College to 12-24 (0-11 ACC) for the season, while the wins improve Georgia Tech to 40-6 (13-1 ACC) on the year.
Even with the losses two seniors continue to swing hot bats for the Eagles as Renee Ramos is 9-for-19 (.474) with four doubles in her last six games, while Dani Weir had her seven game hit-streak snapped but is still hitting 10-for-25 (.400) with seven RBI in her last eight games.
Georgia Tech- 9, Boston College - 0
In game one, the potent Georgia Tech offense jumped on BC starter Nicole D'Argento (3-9) early and often in the first two innings. The Yellow Jackets scored seven of its nine runs off the freshman which included back-to-back home runs in the second inning.
D'Argento had her shortest outing of the season for the Eagles going just one and two thirds innings allowing seven earned runs on seven hits while striking out four.
The only two BC hits in the game came on a single by Blair Destito in the second inning, and another single in the fourth inning by Ramos.
Georgia Tech - 11, Boston College - 3
In game two, Boston College was the team that jumped out to an early lead scoring a run in the top of the first inning on an Amy Tunstall RBI single.
Georgia Tech tied the game in the bottom half of the first inning on a home run by National Player of the Year candidate Jen Yee off Allison Gage (4-6).
The Eagles re-took the lead at 2-1 in the top of the second inning on the strength of sophomore Brittany Wilkins third home run of the season.
BC extended its lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning as Tunstall scored from third base on a suicide squeeze bunt laid down by Weir.
After that the wheels fell off for the Eagles as Georgia Tech scored nine runs in the bottom of the third inning on four hits and an error to make the score 10-3.
Gage went two and two thirds inning allowing nine runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out one batter. Despite the rough start Gage has still only allowed more than three earned runs in a start once all season and that occurred against Florida State on March 27.
Boston College will conclude its series against Georgia Tech tomorrow. The game starts at 1 p.m.
