Defense Shines In Football Scrimmage

Sophomore linebacker Luke Kuechly registered a team-high 17 tackles in a solid performance by the Boston College defense in the football team's first intra-squad scrimmage of the spring season Saturday afternoon in Alumni Stadium. Junior defensive tackle Kaleb Ramsey also impressed with 12 tackles.
True freshman linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis, one of three early enrollees for the incoming freshman class, registered four tackles and recovered a fumble, which he returned 36 yards for a touchdown. The defense notched five quarterback sacks on the day.
The offense was led by sophomore quarterback Dave Shinskie, who completed 8-of-14 passes for 94 yards. Sophomore Mike Marscovetra completed 7-of-10 passes for 50 yards. Members of the Boston College Gridiron Club who watched the scrimmage were anxious to see incoming quarterbacks Chase Rettig and Josh Bordner, both early enrollees. Bordner completed 5-of-8 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. Rettig went 6-of-7 for 32 yards.
Sophomore running back Mike Javorski led all rushers, picking up 42 yards on 18 carries. Redshirt freshman Sterlin Phifer carried the ball 15 times for 28 yards and one touchdown, while junior Montel Harris had six carries for 27 yards. Senior Ryan Lindsey led all receivers with two catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Redshirt freshman place-kicker Nate Freese went 5-for-7 on field goals, connecting from 22, 31 and 37 yards. The Eagles will hold their second intra-squad scrimmage next Saturday in preparation for the annual Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game, which will kick off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 24.
