The Boston College softball team started the Central Florida Tournament off on a good note with a 2-1 win over New England rival Providence at the UCF Softball Complex in Orlando, Fla.
The win improves Boston College to 6-4 on the season, while the loss drops Providence to 2-10.
Offense was very hard to come by for both teams in the first four innings of this game as freshman Nicole D'Argento (3-1) and Alicia Grosso only allowed a combined three hits in that span.
Boston College finally broke through in the top of the fifth inning as D'Argento's classmate Maria Pandolfo started it off with a one-out double to center field. Sophomore Brittany Wilkins followed Pandolfo's double with a double of her own to right field to drive in Pandolfo, and give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles lead would be short lived as Providence scored in the bottom half of the fifth inning on a double and an error to tie the game back up at 1-1.
BC took the lead back in the top of the seventh inning as they got four hits in the inning, including the go-ahead RBI single to left field by Renee Ramos, to jump back in front of PC by the score of 2-1.
D'Argento came back out for the bottom of the seventh inning, and closed the door on the Friars for her second complete-game win of her career. Her line for the game was two hits, one run (none earned), four strikeouts and five walks.
Wilkins and Ramos each had three hits and an RBI in the win as the Eagles out-hit the Friars 9-2.
The Eagles will play their second game of the day at 6 p.m. against the College of Charleston.
