Lombardi, Muse Earn Hockey East Weekly Accolades

Boston College forward Matt Lombardi, the 2010 Hockey East Tournament Most Valuable Player, has earned league player-of-the-week honors and junior John Muse has captured weekly goalie accolades, according to a league announcement made on Monday.
Lombardi tallied a career-high four points - three goals and one assist - in the team's 7-6 overtime victory over Maine in the 2010 Hockey East championship game. The Milton, Mass., product scored at 15:19 of the first period, 5:35 of the second period, notched the primary assist on linemate Barry Almeida's third-period score and completed his first career hat trick at 5:25 of the overtime period to lift BC to its record ninth league title.
The 5-foot-11, 189-pound forward finished the tournament with six points - four goals and two assists - in four games. He notched his first collegiate game-winning goal in the team's 5-2 series-clinching win over Massachusetts in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 13, then registered his second career gamewinner in the league title game.
Lombardi joins eight former Eagles - Brian Leetch (1987), Scott LaGrand (1990), Marty Reasoner (1998), Blake Bellefeuille (1999), Chuck Kobasew (2001), Brian Boyle (2004), Brock Bradford (2007) and Nathan Gerbe (2008) - as Hockey East Tournament Most Valuable Players.
Lombardi has registered 32 points - 10 goals and 22 assists - in 141 career games, including 13 points - six goals and seven assists - in 38 games this winter.
The award marks the first Hockey East weekly honor of his career.
Muse went 2-0 with a 2.87 goals against average and a .903 save percentage in backstopping the Eagles to consecutive league tournament wins. He stopped all 30 shots faced in a 3-0 win over Vermont in the league semifinals on Friday, March 19 and totaled 26 saves in the team's 7-6 overtime victory over Maine the next night en route to Hockey East All-Tournament team accolades.
Muse's shutout performance against the Catamounts in Friday's league semifinal marked his seventh career shutout and third in Hockey East playoff competition (2009 quarterfinals at New Hampshire and 2008 championship against Vermont).
The East Falmouth, Mass. resident, who has now led BC to two league tournament titles (2008 and 2010), is 13-1 with a 1.81 goals against average and a .939 save percentage in 14 career postseason contests, including a 9-1 record, a 1.86 GAA and a .937 save percentage in the Hockey East Tournament.
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound goaltender is 15-8-2 with a 2.43 GAA and a .909 save percentage in 25 games this season. Muse is 58-33-15 with a 2.43 GAA and a .913 save percentage in his 106-game career.
Boston College is the No. 1 seed in the 2010 NCAA Northeast Regional in Worcester, Mass., and will face No. 4 seed Alaska-Fairbanks on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live over the internet an available for viewing at ESPN360.com.
