Boston College vs. Maine Box Score ![]()
All it took for the Boston College softball teams' bats to heat up was to come back up north as it picked up two wins on Saturday afternoon due in large part to its offense. The Eagles defeated Bryant 8-0 after five innings in the early game, and took down Maine 5-2 in the nightcap at the Bryant Softball Complex in Smithfield, R.I.
The wins will improve Boston College to 9-10 on the season, while the losses drop Bryant to 2-13 and Maine falls to 10-18.
BC scored first in both of its games which has proven to be key for the Eagles so far this season as they are now 9-3 when scoring first in a game.
Boston College - 8, Bryant - 0
In game one, Boston College jumped all over Bryant in the top of the first inning. The Eagles pounded out five hits in the inning, including four straight singles, to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
Brittany Wilkins and Taylor Peyton had the two big hits in the inning with matching RBI singles.
The Eagles added to their lead in the top of the second inning as senior Dani Weir hit an RBI single of her own to drive in Rene Delagrammaticas making the score 6-0.
Weir was at it again in the top of the fourth inning as she hit a two-run home run to give BC a 8-0 lead. Weir's homerun now gives her 22 for her career. This moves her into sole possession of fifth place on the all-time Boston College career homeruns list.
Peyton (3-6) seemed much more comfortable pitching back up north as well as she had her best start of the season. She pitched five shutout innings, allowing only two hits, while striking out three in the win.
Boston College - 5, Maine - 2
In game two, the Eagles scored first once again this time in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out solo home run by Blair Destito.
Maine would counter in the top of the fourth inning with a run of its own on four hits off Boston College starter Allison Gage to tie the game at 1-1.
Gage pitched four innings in the game giving up one run on seven hits in the no decision.
The Eagles offense responded in the bottom of the fifth inning as freshman Maria Pandolfo led off the inning with a double to center. After a Lizzy Ploen single and stolen base BC had runners on second and third with one out. That is when Delagrammaticas put Boston College up for good with a clutch two-RBI single to drive in Pandolfo and Ploen making the score 3-1 after five.
Pandolfo would provide the insurance for the Eagles as well hitting an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 4-2.
The combination of Peyton (4-6) and Nicole D'Argento pitched the last three innings of the game for the Eagles. Peyton picked up the win, while D'Argento closed it out for the first save of her collegiate career.
Boston College will be back in action on Wednesday, March 24 as it will host Central Connecticut for its 2010 home opener. The game starts at 3:30 p.m.
