Former Boston College football standout Jo-Lonn Dunbar earned a Super Bowl ring when the New Orleans Saints defeated Indianapolis, 31-17, February 7 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
Dunbar did not play in the game as he was put on injured reserve on December 8 to recover from a hamstring injury. He started three games in the 2009 season and appeared in nine. He finished the season with 20 tackles.
Dunbar was an All-ACC selection for Boston College in 2007 and finished his career with 269 tackles (151 solo), 19.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. He served as team captain two times as a junior and senior.
Another former Eagle, Pete Carmichael, Jr., serves as the New Orleans offensive coordinator. The Saints had the most potent offense in the NFL as they led the league in total offense (403.8), scoring (31.9) and touchdowns (64). Carmichael, Jr. played baseball at BC from 1991-94. He started two years in right field and was also a two-time captain.
Jamie Silva, a special teams player and backup free safety for Indianapolis, came out on the losing end on Super Bowl Sunday. He played in 15 games this season and had 30 tackles (22 solo) and two passes defended.
At The Heights, Silva was a Consensus first-team All-America selection as a senior in 2007 and was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the nation's top defensive back.
