CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior forward Corey Raji totaled 15 points and eight rebounds and Boston College had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but Joe Trapani's three-pointer fell short and Duke earned a 66-63 ACC victory over the host Eagles before a sellout crowd of 8,606 fans in Conte Forum.
Junior Rakim Sanders tallied 13 points, while Trapani finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Reggie Jackson scored 11 points.
Jackson's three-pointer brought the Eagles within one point - at 64-63 - with 15.1 seconds left. Jon Scheyer hit two free throws with 12.1 seconds for the game's final points.
BC had trailed by six points - 60-54 -- with 1:26 left, before sinking six straight free throws to narrow the margin to two points - 62-60 - with 27.6 seconds to play. Duke's Nolan Smith then sank two foul shots with 26.9 seconds left to raise the Blue Devil lead to four points.
There were eight lead changes - all in the first half of play. Duke took a 20-19 lead on Lance Thomas' dunk with 7:08 remaining and never trailed afterward. The Blue Devils utilized a 7-0 run in the final 3:01 of the first half to take a 35-25 lead at the break.
BC scored the first six points of the second half to close within four points - 35-31 - with 18:15 to play. After the teams exchanged baskets, Duke answered with a 9-2 run to claim an 11-point cushion - 46-35, its largest lead of the day - with 12:59 left.
Trailing 58-48, BC ran off six straight points - two from Trapani and four from Tyler Roche - to narrow the difference to four points with 1:56 to play. Duke's Smith stopped the BC rally with a field goal with 1:26 to play.
