
Men's Basketball Defeats North Carolina, 71-67

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Inserted into the starting line-up for the first time in 10 games, sophomore Reggie Jackson responded with 17 points, including 14 in the second half, to lead Boston College to a 71-67 ACC win over North Carolina before 8,128 fans in Conte Forum.
Junior Corey Raji totaled 16 points and five rebounds, while classmate Rakim Sanders tallied 14 points and six rebounds. Junior Joe Trapani finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
Sophomore Evan Ravenel provided a big spark off the bench, notching eight points, four rebounds and two blocked shots in 17 minutes.
Trailing by seven points just more than two minutes into the second half, BC used two big runs to secure the victory. After North Carolina began the half with a 10-2 run to gain a 46-39 advantage, the host Eagles ran off 10 straight points to claim a 49-46 lead. Jackson scored five points and Raji netted four points in this stretch.
BC held a 55-53 lead midway through the half before scoring eight consecutive points to boost its advantage to double digits - 63-53 - with 7:28 to play. Raji scored four points in this rally.
The Tar Heels answered with a 7-0 run to close the margin to 63-60 with 4:52 left. BC's Jackson snapped the UNC rally, driving in the lane and earning a goaltending call. After UNC scored on its next possession, BC regained the five-point lead on a thunderous offensive-rebound dunk by Ravenel with 1:53 to play.
UNC's Larry Drew II converted a three-point play with 1:38 left to trim the margin to two points - 67-65, but a Sanders driving hoop and two Jackson free throws raised the BC lead to six points - 71-65 - with 31.0 seconds left.
North Carolina led by as many as eight points - 13-5 - early in the contest and didn't surrender its lead until BC ran off eight straight points to take a 35-32 lead with 1:30 left in the first half. BC led 37-36 at the intermission.
Game Notes: Ravenel scored eight points for the second straight game, tying his career high. The sophomore shot 4-for-7 from the field, including three dunks ... Sanders scored in double figures for the 50th time in his career. The junior scored 10 of BC's first 15 points in the game ... Jackson, who made his 15th start of the season, tied his career high with seven assists (his fifth career game with seven assists).
