Women's Basketball Falls To Wake Forest, 60-56

Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to ACC foe Wake Forest, 60-56, at Conte Forum on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles are now 14-11, and 5-5 in the ACC, while Wake Forest improved to 15-10 on the season and 6-5 in the ACC.
The Eagles held a one point lead at the half, 23-22, behind a combined 21 points and 13 rebounds from Stefanie Murphy and Carolyn Swords. The Eagles matched their season-low in first half shooting percentage at 30 percent). Wake Forest went on an 11-0 run midway through the half to go up 14-7. A Swords foul shot ended the run at 9:12.
BC got back in the half on a 10 point run sparked by six straight points from Swords and four from Murphy.
The Eagles gave the game away in the second half as the offense struggle to come alive. BC shot just 34 percent from the floor.
At 13:19 BC went up 36-31 behind a traditional three-point play by senior Brittanny Johnson. With just over nine minutes to play, Wake Forest took the lead on two four shots from Secily Ray (17 points, 7 rebounds). The Eagles stayed within three points until Brittany Waters hit a layup at the three minute mark and Wake Forest was up, 51-45.
BC would cut into the lead, 58-56, with 17 seconds to play on a three-pointer from freshman Kerri Shields (nine points, two rebounds). Shields would cause a jump ball on the next play but the Eagles turned the ball over on the inbounds play. Wake Forest, which hit six free throws in the final 45 seconds, pulled away on two freebies from Sandra Garcia (10 points, 6-for-6 from the foul line).
The Eagles were led by junior Carolyn Swords with a double-double - 16 points, 14 rebounds and junior Stefanie Murphy added 19 points (9-for-10 from the foul line), eight rebounds.
Boston College shot just 32.7 percent from the floor for the game and just 23.5 percent from the three-point line. BC did out rebound the Decs, 39-32 but lost the points in the paint, 24-20.
