Sophomore LB Luke Kuechly has been named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, given to the Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year.
Kuechly is the nation's leading tackler with 125 stops through the first nine games. He is also second in solo tackles with 78. He has recorded 18 straight games with 10 or more tackles and racked up a career high 20 against NC State. That is the third-best performance in the country this season.

Kuechly is one of two semifinalists in their sophomore year of eligibility.
Voting for Chuck Bednarik Award begins November 9. Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA head coaches, sports information directors and selected national media. Three finalists will be announced November 22 and a second round of voting will take place.
The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 9.
