The Boston College football team will defend its home turf for a final time in 2010 when it hosts Virginia Saturday at noon at Alumni Stadium.
The game marks the final one in Chestnut Hill for 17 Eagles including captains Alex Albright, Anthony Castonzo, Wes Davis and James McCluskey. It will also be the final time that Mark Herzlich will run out of the tunnel at Alumni Stadium after defeating Ewing's sarcoma. But he is focused on a bigger goal.
"When you get in the middle of the season, it's one game at a time," Herzlich said. "We just need to get a win, then after the game, see where we are and get another one."
The senior class is 20-7 at home during their careers and helped the Eagles to a pair of ACC Championship games in 2007 and 2008. The seniors are 33-18 overall in their career at The Heights.
The big news out of the BC camp was that sophomore LB Luke Kuechly was named a finalist for the Bronko Nugarski Trophy, given annually to the National Defensive Player of the Year. Kuechly leads the country in tackles (146) and solo stops (83) and is the first player since 2006 to earn a pair of 20 tackle games in the same season.
"Luke just uses his natural ability and athleticism to get to the ball," Herzlich said. "It's fun to watch and fun to be a part of."
