Women's Basketball Defeats Boston University, 84-65

BOSTON, Mass. - Kerri Shields scored a career-high 21 points and Carolyn Swords tallied her 31st double-double with 14 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Boston College women's basketball team to an 84-65 win on Friday, November 12 at the Case Center.
BC begins the season 1-0 while BU starts 0-1.
Kerri Shields (21 points) shot a deep three to open the game and the Eagles took an early 14-6 lead behind her six points. Shields went 2-3 on her three-pointers and finished the first half with six points. Swords netted seven points and made seven rebounds in the first to keep BC in a constant lead. Terriers played catch up and narrowed the gap to 26-22 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half but BC pulled away, led by Jaclyn Thoman (10 points) with eight points.
A three-pointer from BU's Alex Young put the score at 40-37 with a minute left but the Eagles were able to keep the Terriers at bay to end the first half with a three-point lead.
The Eagles opened the second half with a five-point run but BU remained close behind, 45-41. Boston University kept the game close but BC continued to respond. At the 13 minute mark the Terriers had a chance to tie it up with a three-pointer but missed and BC gained the rebound to score again and increase its leads 53-47. Stefanie Murphy (12 points) added four points to help the Eagles pull away from the Terriers' attempt at a comeback.
Shields continued with the three-pointers, nailing one with 10 minutes left to increase BC's lead to 61-47. She scored 15 points in the second half alone.
BC shot 49% from the field and 63% from the three-point line. BU was held to 38% from the field, 44% from the three-point line.
The Eagles will host Hartford on Monday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. for their home opener.
