CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Joe Trapani totaled 20 points and nine rebounds, and classmate Corey Raji recorded 17 points and nine rebounds to lead Boston College to a 79-49 season-opening victory over St. Francis (NY) before 3,740 fans in Conte Forum.
The game marked Steve Donahue's first regular-season game at Boston College. Donahue accepted the BC job on April 7, 2010 after serving the previous 10 seasons as the head coach at Cornell.
Junior Reggie Jackson added 17 points and four assists for the Eagles.
BC led 38-15 at halftime. Leading 3-2 three minutes into the contest, the host Eagles then ran off 21 straight points while holding the Terriers scoreless for just more than 10 minutes. Raji tallied 10 points, Jackson scored six points and Trapani tallied five points in this decisive rally.
Raji finished the half with 15 points and seven rebounds. BC shot 48.3 percent from the field, while limiting St. Francis to 18.5 percent shooting. BC forced 11 first-half turnovers.
BC outscored the Terriers 20-6 in the first nine minutes of the second half to extend its margin to 58-21. Trapani scored seven points in the run that was capped by a Jackson three-pointer.
Game Notes: Junior Dallas Elmore notched four points, three rebounds and one blocked shot in 12 minutes off the bench. Elmore also drew two offensive fouls ... Freshmen Danny Rubin and Gabe Moton both made impressive debuts. Rubin scored nine points in 22 minutes, while Moton totaled four points, two rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes ... Jackson made a team-high two steals ... Trapani was credited with two blocked shots ... Senior Josh Southern missed the opener while recovering from an injury. He is expected to see some game action against Yale on Nov. 18 ... All 12 players in uniform saw court time. Junior Peter Rehnquist and senior John Cahill, both walk-ons, each registered a field goal in the closing minutes.
