
Men's Cross Country Takes Seventh at New England Championship

The Boston College men's cross country team complete took seventh place at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Franklin Park, Boston, Mass. The Eagles made their best showing at the meet in three years with 289 points against a 47 team field featuring seven nationally-ranked and 21 regionally-ranked programs.
The top five for BC all posted their fastest times of the year, including three runners establishing new personal records (PR).
Sophomore Louis Serafini led the Eagles in his first race of the 2010 season. He navigated the throng of 318 runners to finish the eight kilometer course in 25:27, one second shy of his PR, taking 32nd place overall.
Keeping pace with him was classmate Jordan Hamm. The sophomore annihilated his PR by over a minute, crossing the line in 25:28 for 34th place.
Not far behind were junior Ian Thomas and sophomore Danny Kane. The two Eagles also crushed their PRs, coming in at 25:40 (48th place) and 25:49 (61st overall) respectively.
Senior Michael Keebler rounded out the scoring for Boston College. The Absecon, N.J. native turned out his fastest time of the year, 26:18, to take the 114th spot overall.
A pair of freshmen also competed in the varsity heat for the Eagles. Anthony Bellitti (27:09) and Joseph McConaughy (28:03) tested the challenging course, but did not score for BC.
Following the varsity race, the meet was concluded with the men's sub-varsity heat.
Boston College took sixth out the 47 team field, totaling 203 points behind four runners' fastest times of the year.
Sophomore James Glover led the way. The Clifton Park, N.Y. native took 18-of-293, the best placing in his career and set a new PR. Glover completed the course in 26:30, besting his previous mark by 49 seconds.
Senior Corey Ahern followed in closely for 21st place in 26:34, his quickest time of the season. Sophomore Michael Masse (26:34), John Shannon (26:51) and Akash Couhule (27:08) completed the scoring for BC.
The NEICAAA is comprised of 65 academic institutions in the six states that make up New England. Originally formed in 1886 with seven charter members, the organization is now made up of 17 Division-I schools, with six Division-II members and 35 Division-III colleges and universities.
