CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Joe Trapani scored 17 points to lead Boston College in a 52-51 loss to Maine before 4,116 fans in Conte Forum.
Boston College took a 50-42 lead on a Tyler Roche three-point field goal with 6:01 to play, but could muster only one free throw the rest of the way.
Maine (7-5) scored eight straight points to even the score with 1:46 remaining. After BC junior Josh Southern sank one free throw with 1:19 to play, Maine scored the game's final two points on two Sean McNally free throws with 1:10 to play.
BC (9-5) missed two field-goal attempts in the final minute.
The Eagles scored 19 points on 24.1 percent shooting (7-for-29 FG) in the second half.
The host Eagles led 19-13 nine minutes into the contest, before the Black Bears used a 12-0 run to gain its biggest lead of the day - 25-19 with 6:36 left in the half. BC answered with eight straight points to regain the lead and finished the half with a 32-29 advantage.
Trapani hit consecutive three-pointers at 17:49 and 17:03 of the second half to give BC a 41-33 lead. Maine trimmed the margin to two points at 41-39, before the Eagles extended its lead back to eight points on Roche's three-pointer.
Maine was led by McNally's 15 points and Gerald McLemore's 14 points.
Game Notes: BC made nine three-pointers on a season-high 28 attempts ... BC was credited with 15 assists on 18 baskets. Reggie Jackson, Biko Paris and Rakim Sanders each recorded four assists ... BC gained a 37-34 rebounding edge. Corey Raji, Southern and Sanders each grabbed eight rebounds.
