BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston College women's hockey team dropped a close match to Boston University on Tuesday evening, 3-1 at Walter Brown Arena in Boston, Mass.
The Eagles fall to 5-10-9 on the season while the Terriers improve to 9-6-8.
The two teams battled evenly for the opening period with Boston College grabbing a 6-5 lead in shots by the end of the frame. It would be Boston University who would find the net first, as senior Melissa Anderson would give the Terriers a lead with only minutes to play in the frame.
The Terriers continued to fight back against the Eagles' pressure, taking the lead shots with a 15-13 advantage after two periods. BC made great strides on several power plays, but Boston University would add another tally midway through the frame to put the score at 2-0.
Looking to gain ground, the Eagles came into the third period flying and with high hopes. BC managed to capitalize on their momentum as senior Allie Thunstrom intercepted a pass in the attacking zone and snapped a wrister that rang off the pipe and into the back of the net to bring the Eagles back to within one.
BC was unable to grab another score in the game while BU added a late empty-netter to finish the game at 3-1.
Freshman goalie Corinne Boyles made 25 saves on the night as the Terriers outshot the Eagles, 27-22.
With her goal, Allie Thunstrom took over sole position of fifth place on BC's all-time points list. She currently has 126 points in her career with the Eagles.
In their next match, the Eagles will travel to play Providence College on Saturday, January 23 at 2:00 p.m.
