
Kristen Mewis Leads No. 6 Women's Soccer Past Miami

Kristen Mewis had a goal and an assist in the first half to lead Boston College past Miami, 2-0, in the ACC season-opener for both teams at Cobb Stadium on the campus of the University of Miami.
The Eagles improve to 9-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the ACC, while Miami is now 5-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference. BC, which is ranked No. 2 by Soccer America and No. 6 by the NSCAA, will travel to Tallahassee to play No. 5 Florida State on Sunday, Sept. 27 (1 p.m.).
Mewis got the Eagles on the board when she set up fellow freshman Victoria DiMartino in the 32 minute mark. DiMartino would give the Eagles a 1-0 on her ninth goal of the season. DiMartino now has nine goals and two assists for a team leading 20 points.
Four minutes later, Mewis scored to give Boston College an insurance goal and a 2-0 lead. It was her fourth goal of the season. She now has four goals and four assists 12 points.
Boston College goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni recorded four saves as she picked up her ninth win and seventh shutout of the season. Miami goalkeeper Vicki Alonzo had five saves in the loss.
The Eagles had seven shots on goal and 12 total shots, while Miami had four on goal and 10 total shots. The Eagles only had two corner kicks, while the Hurricanes had four.
BC junior Chelsea Regan and sophomore Julia Bouchelle each had three shots in the game, while Victoria DiMartino and Mewis had two shots apiece. Miami's Brittney Steinbruch had four shots in the match.
Game Notes:
Boston College now leads the all-time series, 8-2 ... The 9-0 start is one of the best early season record ever posted by BC. In 2003, the Eagles went 8-0-2 to open the season and in 2007 the team posted a 7-0-3 record ... The Eagles held Miami to just one shot on goal in the second half ... BC has now outscored opponents, 34-1.
