Winning Streak Ends for No. 6 Women's Soccer

Tallahassee, FLA - The No. 6 Boston College (9-1) women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season to No. 5 Florida State, 3-2, in a battle between two of the top ACC teams on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles are now 9-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while Florida State improves to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the ACC.
Florida State is the first team to scored more than one goal on the Eagles this season. The only other team to score a goal against BC was Harvard in a 4-1 Eagles win on Sept. 18.
The Seminole's Tori Huster struck in the ninth minute when she sent a shot into the left side of the goal from the top of the box. Just over three minutes later, Boston College tied the game when freshman Victoria DiMartino scored her team leading 10th goal of the season. Victoria DiMartino slid a pass from fellow freshman Kristen Mewis into the right inside of the post.
Tiffany McCarthy gave FSU a 2-1 lead in the 22nd minute. McCarthy scored off a throw in from Becky Edwards from just five yards out. Both teams had solid chances in the first half as Florida State had eight shots and Boston College had seven.
The second half the game remained a back-and-forth battle. The Seminoles opened the half with two straight corner kicks but could not convert. Boston College came back and tied the match at 2-2 when Amy Caldwell scored her second goal of the season in the 56th minute. The junior from Braintree one-timed a shot to the inside of the left post off a pass from Julia Bouchelle.
FSU would go ahead for good at the 73rd minute mark when Jessica Price placed a shot on the inside right post from 11 yards out. The Eagles best chance to tie the game came when junior forward Brooke Knowlton hit the post with a shot from 15 yards out in the 87th minute of the game.
The Eagles had the advantage in shots with 16 to Florida State's 13 shots. BC had five corner kicks to seven for FSU. BC goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni had four saves, while McNulty had three saves.

Boston College will host North Carolina on Thursday, October 1 at 7 p.m. Please remember to arrive early as the gates will open at 6 p.m. and the field is expected to reach capacity ... This was one of the highest scoring game between BC and FSU. Before today's 3-2 match, the two teams had only eight goals in seven matches ... Amy Caldwell earned her first start of the season ... Kristen Mewis led the Eagles with four shots, while Victoria DiMartino and Julia Bouchelle each had three shots.
