CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College football team will host its first ACC game of the season and will look to get even in the conference when it hosts Wake Forest on Saturday, September 26 at 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
Last season against the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem, BC used a nine-play, 70-yard touchdown drive with 4:57 left in the game to come from behind and win, 24-21, to keep its ACC Championship Game hopes alive.
Wake Forest is coming off consecutive non-conference wins against Stanford and Elon after losing its season opener at home against Baylor, 24-21. Saturday will mark Wake's first ACC and road game of the season. The Demon Deacons lost their last three road games in 2008.
"They are very similar to us," senior center Matt Tennant said. "They are one team we always consider ourselves like. They are a small school, they work hard, they do their jobs and they have been successful. They may have lost some guys but they are going to rebuild similar to what we did."
Boston College returns home after suffering its first loss of the season at Clemson, 25-7. The defense did not allow a touchdown in the game, but the Eagles' offense only managed 54 yards of total offense.
"The offense wants to go out and prove itself," Tennant said. "We want to be able to show people that we can still score points and bounce back from (last week). It's definitely not easy. We just have to go out here and practice this week. We need to push ourselves harder than we did last week and prepare ourselves better."
The defense, which ranks fourth in the nation in total defense, will get the services of senior captain Mike McLaughlin at middle linebacker this week. McLaughlin suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during spring drills and is listed atop the depth chart at middle linebacker, stepping in for true freshman Luke Kuechly.
