King Wins UMass Invitational

Amherst, Mass. - The Boston College women's cross country team, led by junior Caroline King, turned in its second straight first place finish to start the season with a win at the UMass Invitational on September 19. The Eagles had five runners place in the top 10, and four runners place in the top eight spots. The meet featured four other schools in UMass, Maine, Vermont and Amherst College.
The Eagles won the meet with 32 points, while Vermont's 42 points were good enough for second place. Maine came in third place with 93 points, while Amherst and UMass finished fourth and fifth respectively with 85 and 93 points.
Upperclassmen led the way for Boston College in this race as King crossed the line first with a time of 17:19, while classmate Christy Titus finished in seventh place with a time of 17:59. Senior Gretchen Andrus had a solid day as well for the Eagles as she finished in sixth place with a time of 17:52.
Two more seniors rounded out the top 10 as Lauren Johnston came in eighth place with a time of 17:59, and classmate Kelly Gross crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 18:05.
BC will have two weeks off before they are back in action at the Murray Keatinge Invitational which will be held on October 3 in Orono, Maine.
