
Men's Soccer Loses To No. 7 Maryland, 2-0

Seventh-ranked Maryland tallied one goal in each half to gain a 2-0 victory over Boston College in the ACC opener played before 2,544 fans at Ludwig Field in College Park, Md.
The visiting Eagles, which fielded a starting line-up of seven freshmen, three sophomores and one junior, held their own in the first half. Maryland had a slim 9-7 shot advantage at halftime, but capitalized on Jason Harrick's goal at 6:15 to gain a 1-0 lead.
The host Terrapins assumed control of the match in the second half, outshooting the Eagles 14-2 in the final 45 minutes. BC kept its deficit at one goal through the midway point of the half, only to see Kevin Tangney use his head to find the back of the net off a corner kick by Matt Kassel at 74:43.
The Boston College attack was led by freshmen Kevin Mejia (three shots) and Charlie Rugg (two shots).
Freshman goalkeeper Justin Luthy made eight saves.
Maryland finished with a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Eagles (1-3-0, 0-1-0 ACC) return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 15 when they host Fairfield at the Newton Campus Complex.
