CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Atlantic Coast Conference has launched its team-by-team preview for the 2009 season, entitled "12 Days of ACC Football," and Boston College is previewed in the August 3 edition of the series.
The teams will be unveiled each day through August 14 in alphabetical order by division, first Atlantic, then Coastal. New this year, each team's preview will be written by that school's Campus Correspondent for TheRoadtoTampaBay.com. Each team page will also include a preseason video and preview information from the ACC media guide. Boston College's campus correspondent is David Auffenberg.
Auffenberg offers a preview for every position but especially likes the Eagles' offensive line and backfield. Regarding the offensive line, he writes:
"Always a noted strength at BC, the offensive line is again loaded this year. This offensive line should open some big holes for the running game and give plenty of protection to the quarterback."
Both of BC's preseason All-ACC picks came from the offensive line in senior C Matt Tennant and junior OT Anthony Castonzo.
Sophomores Josh Haden and Montel Harris return to the backfield after stellar rookie campaigns when they were the second-best true freshmen running back tandem in the nation with 106 yards per game. Harris broke the single-season rushing record by a freshman at BC with 900 yards. Auffenberg says the following regarding the duo:
"For all of the uncertainty at quarterback, the running backs offer a bright spot on the offensive side of the ball. Returning sophomores Montel Harris and Josh Haden should be even better this year after picking up starting experience last season."
