CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Eagles returned to Alumni Stadium today for their second day in shells. The overcast sky kept the players cool despite the high levels of humidity.
The skill position players were moving rapidly across the field to snag balls being launched from a JUGS machine. The receivers needed extremely quick reactions and short steps to make their way up-field once the ball was secured. This drill requires the players to work on their reaction time and footwork.
The players spread out across the 40-yard line with the receivers out wide, running backs in the back field and tight ends crouched in their spot on the line. The coach's whistle sent the players all shooting in different directions to practice individual route running for certain plays.
Some of the best highlights of the day came from the special teams unit. Senior Steve Aponavicius was in the zone today, his longest kick coming from 48-yards away and clearing the crossbar with room to spare. Sophomore Ryan Quigley matched Aponavicius with an impressive kick of his own, sending the ball over 50-yards in the air during a punting drill, dropping the ball past the returner who had to turn his back to try and catch up with it.
The Eagles will take part in Media Day tomorrow (closed to the public) before heading out to practice again in the afternoon.
