CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Members of the Boston College football team took part in "Lift For Life" on July 30 to raise money for Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that senior Mark Herzlich was diagnosed with in May.
As of July 30, the team had raised $28,000 in 28 days for the cause through Uplifting Athletes, a national organization that works with college football players to fund rare disease research. That number is the highest total for a first-time event at a school in the organization's history.
More than 60 Eagles participated in the event that included eight different strength and conditioning competitions put together by football's strength and conditioning coach, Jason Loscalzo. The events included the Farmer's Walk, Sandbag Carry, Pillar Bridge, Move The Mountain, Medicine Ball Toss, Sled Push and Pull, Plate Holds and Tug of War. The offense and defense competed against each other with the offense winning the competition.
Uplifting Athletes chapters are run by current football players on college campuses across the country, including Colgate University, University of Maryland, Ohio State and Penn State - each benefiting a rare disease relevant to their team.
Fans looking to support Herzlich and the team can donate at any time. For more information or to make your tax-deductible donation, please visit Uplifting Athletes.
