GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior DE Jim Ramella and senior C Matt Tennant participated in the 2009 ACC Football Kickoff on Sunday at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center where a record number of media came out to preview the upcoming season.
Ramella and Tennant arrived on Sunday morning and took pictures with the other student-athletes from each school before talking to the media.
The two Ohio natives were asked a wide variety of questions, but a recurring one was how the team seems to always bounce back from adversity and how it will recover from a tough offseason that saw a coaching change and losses on both sides of the ball.
"I think that is a tribute to the coaches, especially to (head coach) Spaz and (defensive coordinator) Bill McGovern," Ramella said. "They are very good stabilizers for our team. BC recruits the right players for the program that are smart and tough who can handle the challenges that have been thrown at us."
For the second-straight season, a major theme to the Eagles' day revolved around the quarterback position. Media from around the country inquired about who will start and who has the edge as of right now.
"People were worried about that last year, as well," Tennant responded to one reporter. "It is a somewhat similar situation to last season. I have faith in our coaches that they will put us in a position to succeed and they will put the best quarterback out there. I don't like to worry about what's going on behind me, only in front of me."
The media also continued to touch on the fact that BC exceeds preseason expectations. Last season, the Eagles were picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Division and in 2007 were chosen to place second. BC advanced to the ACC Championship Game both seasons as the winner of the division.
"We expect to win the ACC," Ramella said when asked about the team's expectations for this year. "Anything less is a disappointment in our eyes. We're not sitting around feeling sorry for ourselves (that we lost the last two championship games). It is going to be a challenge but it is something we can achieve. We definitely have the ability and we hope to get over the hump this year."
Head Coach Frank Spaziani will meet with the media on Monday to wrap up the Kickoff in Greensboro.
