Boston College women's rowing raced in the Beanpot on Saturday, May 2, on the Charles River in Boston, Mass. The Eagles faced strong competition against Northeast rivals Boston University, Northeastern, Harvard, Columbia, Radcliffe and MIT.
BC entered crews in the Varsity Eight, Frosh/Novice Eight, Varsity Four, and 2nd Novice Four+.
The Novice Four crew led the way for the Eagles with a first place finish in a time of 8:52.6.
BC's Varsity Eight fought to a fifth place finish in a time of 7:32.7. "The Varsity Eight did well to overcome a sluggish first half and fight there way back into the race," said Head Coach Steve Fiske. "They never quit on the race, which says a lot about the athletes in the crew."
In the Frosh/Novice Eight, BC finished fifth in a time of 8:15.0. Columbia claimed first place in a time of 7:40.5.
The Eagles' Varsity Four crew captured fourth place in a time of 8:31.8 Radcliffe came in first in a time of 7:58.0.
"We had four teams from the top ten at Eastern Sprints on the river today so it was nice to get a win in the Novice Four and show some speed at points in all of our races," said Fiske, regarding the team's overall performance at the Beanpot. "With more hard work and better execution at the Eastern Sprints in two weeks, we are confident that we can progress significantly from last year's results and achieve our goals for the year."
The Eagles will race in the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 17 on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
