Sanchez Earns Pair of Honors

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College junior Tony Sanchez has earned a pair of honors leading up to the Eagles' first appearance in the NCAA Baseball Championship beginning on Friday.
Sanchez was named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team and was also tabbed as one of 30 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, presented annually to the nation's premier amateur baseball player.
The list of 30 players will be narrowed to five finalists on June 2 en route to the announcement of this year's winner on July 14. The 2009 GSA will be awarded live at MLB's All-Star FanFest in St. Louis as part of a production by Major League Baseball and MLBAM.
Sanchez is currently ranked fifth in the ACC in runs (62), seventh in slugging (.640), eighth in doubles (18) and total bases (135), ninth in home runs (14),15th in on-base percentage (.455), 16th in hits (75) and batting (.355).
The Miami, Fla., native has also thrown out the most runners in the conference this season, catching opponents stealing 18 times.
Sanchez's 62 runs this season are a Boston College single-season record. Steve Langone and Sean McGowan had shared the record with 60 runs, which they both reached in 1999. His 14 home runs are also the third-most in a single season.
Sanchez has established himself as one of the most productive hitters in BC history. He ranks fifth all-time at Boston College in home runs with 24 and RBI with 121, sixth in hits with 198 and eighth in runs with 124.
