Four Eagles Earn All-ACC Baseball Honors

GREEENSBORO, N.C. - Four Boston College student-athletes were named to the 2009 All-ACC Baseball Team, announced Monday by the conference office. Junior Tony Sanchez was named to the All-ACC First Team and is the first player from BC to earn that honor.
Juniors Robbie Anston and Mike Belfiore and sophomore Mickey Wiswall were each named to the second team.
Sanchez finished the regular season ranked fifth in the ACC in runs (59), seventh in slugging percentage (.647) and total bases (130), ninth in home runs (14), 10th in doubles (17), 15th in hits (71) and on-base percentage (.450) and 17th in batting (.353).
His 59 runs scored is one off of the Boston College single-season record of 60 set by Steve Langone and Sean McGowan in 1999. His 14 homers this year are the third-most in Eagle history. The Miami, Fla., product has also put his stamp in the career record books as he ranks fifth all-time in home runs (24) and RBI (120), seventh in hits (194) and eighth in runs (123).
Anston has become one of the top leadoff hitters in the country this year. The Odessa, Fla., native is batting a team-leading .366 which ranks 12th in the ACC. He also ranks second in the conference in doubles (20), fifth in hits (79), 11th in on-base percentage (.460) and 17th in runs scored (51).
Anston is just four hits away from breaking the Boston College single-season record of 82 set by Jared McGuire in 2005.
Belfiore, from Commack, N.Y., has been solid for the Eagles both as a first baseman and the closer on the mound. He is batting .286 with 11 home runs and 59 RBI. He ranks fourth in the ACC this year with his RBI total and his home runs rank 16th. At Boston College, his RBI number is the third-most in single season while his home runs are seventh.
Belfiore has also picked up eight saves on the mound, which ranks third in the ACC. He leads the Eagles with a 2.21 ERA and five wins. He has worked 36.2 innings on the season and has allowed 13 runs - nine earned - on 40 hits. He has struck out 45 batters and walked 10.
Wiswall currently ranks eighth in the ACC in RBI (57), ninth in total bases (123), 10th in doubles (17) and 11th in home runs (12).His 12 homers rank sixth in a single season at Boston College while his 57 RBI rank fourth.
