Women's Track & Field Wins New England Championship

AMHERST, Mass. - The Boston College women's track and field team won its second consecutive New England Championship this weekend at the University of Massachusetts.
The Eagles won with a total of 87 points which topped New Hampshire's 79.50. Northeastern, UMass and Rhode Island rounded out the top five.
BC earned its 87 points with five wins while dominating the 1500m run with five Eagles earning points in the event.
Boston College's two relay teams both took home gold medals. The 4x800m relay team set a new meet record with a time of 8:57.84, breaking the mark BC set a year ago of 9:00.11. The 4x400m relay team took top honors with a time of 3:50.46.
The Eagles had five runners earn points in the 1500m for a combined 29 points. Junior Samantha Gawrych won the event by finishing in 4:27.40 while classmate Gretchen Andrus was right behind her at 4:28.42.
Junior Jessica Driscoll earned the bronze in the event by crossing in 4:28.70. Junior Christine Sullivan earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 4:31.84 and sophomore Madeline Wallace finished right behind her at 4:32.17.
Boston College picked up 18 of its points in the 400m dash as freshman Anna Cioffredi won the event with a time of 54.82 which is the fourth-fastest time in BC history. Junior Meaghan Callahan finished in second place by crossing the line in 56.17.
Sophomore Siobhan Breagy also won the gold in the 800m with a time of 2:11.40.
The women will compete in the ECAC Championships next weekend hosted by Princeton.
