Over the next few weeks leading up to the Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game, we will be sitting down with some of our football student-athletes to find out how spring practice has progressed. Today redshirt sophomore tight end Lars Anderson gives us his thoughts.
How has spring practice been going so far?
Personally I think I'm doing pretty well. The offense has taken a while to get used to. It's all no-huddle, so it's all hand signals. The offense is coming together, though. The last scrimmage we played decent, but there is still room for improvement. We have to start to gel with the new offense, but we are going to be fine.
With Ryan Purvis graduating, do you feel like it's your time to step up?
Yeah, of course. I got some good experience last year, playing a decent amount behind Purvis. I feel like I'm definitely proving myself so far this spring. I'm looking for big things in 2009.
Did Ryan give you any advice for next year?
He said just work hard, and naturally our whole team is a hard-working team. He said just to keep doing what I'm doing, and everything will work out for itself.
What's your impression of new tight ends coach Dave Brock?
I like him. He is a really intense guy on the field. Off the field he's really funny, and a good guy to be around. I'm learning things that I never learned last year, which is a good thing. I feel like he is already helping me on the field.
Have there been any differences or adjustments with Gary Tranquill as offensive coordinator?
Well, it's a dynamic offense. For me, I'm moving around a lot more. I'm more like an H-back. I'm in a three-point stance, off the ball, on the ball, moving around in motion all the time. That's a little bit different. I really like the offense. Last year they called it a dynamic offense. I actually think this year it is more of a true dynamic offense.
What are your expectations for next season?
We're looking to win the ACC Championship. We are hungry. Losing it the past two years was definitely a blow. This year we are coming out even hungrier and looking for that championship.
