Women's Track & Field Finishes Second at Skyhawk Invitational

EASTON, Mass. - The Boston College women's track and field team finished second in the Skyhawk Invitational hosted by Stonehill College this weekend. The Eagles finished just nine and a half points behind the winner and had eight winning marks on the day.
Rhode Island took the team title with a total of 190 points while BC finished with 180.5. UMass Lowell, Tufts and Stonehill rounded out the top five.
Boston College's three relay teams all took first place in their events. The 4x100m relay team of juniors Teyahnie Boone and Meaghan Callahan and freshmen Anna Cioffredi and Rory Cellucci took first with a time of 48.56. The 4x400m relay team of Callahan, junior Samantha Gawrych, sophomore Siobhan Breagy and freshman Sara Missert also took first with a time of 4:05.85.
The 4x800m relay team of senior Lacey McKeon and juniors Amy Bernier, Taylor Meyer and Christine Sullivan finished with a time of 9:38.97 which was 16 seconds better than second place.
Mallory Champa won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:50.30 which was 32 seconds better than the second place finisher. Senior Medena Knespl took fourth in the 5000m with a time of 18:54.69.
Cellucci and Boone also competed in the 1500m and tied for second place with an identical time of 12.74. Cioffredi took the top honors in the 100m dash with a time of 12.61. Gawrych also took first in the 800m by finishing in 2:15.47.
Callahan and Boone ran the 200m dash as well and finished second and fifth, respectively, with times of 26.28 and 26.90.
Breagy finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:17.56 while classmate Madeline Wallace crossed in 2:19.53 which put her in sixth.
The top seven finishers in the 1500m event all wore maroon and gold. Gawrych won the event with a time of 4:40.85. The next six BC finishers were all within five seconds of each other.
Freshman Casey Hsiung earned a couple of points in the 400m dash with her time of 1:02.11 which put her in fourth place in the second section.
Senior Kara Musso finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.69. Freshman Georgette Asfoura leaped to a fifth place finish with a mark of 1.52m. Freshman Emily Cornelius tied for first in the pole vault by clearing 3.35m.
Junior Melissa Hadfield and Missert both earned points in the long jump. Hadfield finished in third with a mark of 5.38m while Missert took eighth at 5.23m. Junior Caitlin McCann placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.55m.
Freshman Kelsey Huckins and senior Christie Majkut both earned points in the hammer. Huckins took fourth with a throw of 48.50m while Majkut took seventh with a mark of 40.46m.
