Pair of Eagles Qualify For Regionals at Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Samantha Gawrych and sophomore Siobhan Breagy both reached regional qualifying marks in the 1500m at the Brown Springtime Invitational on Sunday.
Breagy won the event with a time of 4:25.57 while Gawrych took third at 4:27.29. Junior Caitlin Bailey, who was running unattached, placed second by breaking the tape in 4:25.91.
Freshman Anna Cioffredi was the other Eagle to take home gold on the day. She won the 400m dash with a time of 55.31 while junior Meaghan Callahan came in third at 57.64. Freshman Sara Missert also placed in the top five with a time of 58.27 which put her in fifth.
Freshman Emily Cornelius finished third in the pole vault by clearing 3.35m and she also took fifth in the 100m dash by crossing in 12.70. Freshman Kelsey Huckins finished sixth in the hammer throw with another top-five mark in program history - this time at 49.13m.
Junior Teyahnie Boone claimed second place in the 100m dash with a mark of 12.61 while Cornelius finished fifth by crossing in 12.70. Boone also placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 25.35.
Sophomore Christy Titus and junior Kelly Gross finished third and fifth, respectively, in the 5000m. Titus recorded a time of 18:25.29 while Gross clocked a 18:47.43.
Junior Melissa Hadfield tied for fourth in the long jump by leaping 5.67m.
The women will take a weekend off before they have to defend their New England Championship title on May 8-9 at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
